Gathering Song                             “Shall We Gather at the River”          ELW Hymn No.423

2 Corinthians 12:2-4 (NRSV) Anne Baum
2  I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows.
3  And I know that such a person—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows— 4  was caught up into Paradise and heard things that are not to be told, that no mortal is permitted to repeat.

Revelation 21:1-4 (NRSV)
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2  And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; 4  he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.”

Help us God, as we seek to interpret what this means for our lives.

Our Father, who dwells in every one of us.  We praise and honor your name.

As we live in love according to your will and the example of Jesus, we bring your kingdom to earth.

You feed our hearts and minds with lifegiving strength, and we will share that sustenance with those around us.

Forgive us when we stray from your way and do wrong, and give us the strength to fulfill your desire for us to forgive those who wrong us.

Continue to guide us and be our strength as we journey on life’s pathway, for you are our all-in-all for all eternity.

Closing Song:                     “Put a Little Love in Your Heart”

by Jimmy Holiday, Randy Myers, & Jackie De Shannon

Verse 1: Think of your fellow man       (Refrain) And the world will be a better place
Lend him a helping hand        And the world will be a better place
Put a little love in your heart For you and me

You see it’s getting late You just wait and see

Oh, please don’t hesitate
Put a little love in your heart

Verse 2:  Another day goes by Verse 3: Take a good look around
And still the children cry And if you’re lookin’ down
Put a little love in your heart Put a little love in your heart

If you want the world to know I hope when you decide
We won’t let hatred grow Kindness will be your guide
Put a little love in your heart (Refrain) Put a little love in your heart (Refrain)

Put a little love in your heart (6x)
