Living in Anxious Times
Living in Anxious times
What help is there when you worry about the future? Fearful that the government might implode? Worried that a government cut or reduction might affect you? Are our allies being pushed aside? Will my vacation plans to Yellowstone National Park fall through due to cuts in resources to the park? Will my insurance through the affordable care act be eliminated? Will eliminating medical research funding result in lack of medical advances?
Can I believe that there are people who champion and cheer such actions? There are!
Why would they want to hinder our government…. Keeping the government from meeting its obligations?
These are all valid concerns. I wonder, what those who want or are demanding these changes, are anxious about? Did I ever ask? Have I sought out ‘the other’, and had a conversation of what they might fear of the future? What they might be anxious about? I can answer that, according to my opinions, but….
Will I take the initiative to talk to people, who believe these actions help the fabric of our nation? Have I ever had a heart to heart conversation with someone who views our current state of affairs from a favorable perspective?
Curiosity is the answer to our American divide. Curiosity starts from a place of not knowing. Curiosity begins with a humility that I do not know or understand and that I am willing to do the legwork necessary to find out. I commit to talk to, dialogue with, converse, not argue, demean, or answer for others. I commit to listening to learn.
Curiosity is the answer.
I too would like that same respect. I too would like to be heard and not demonized.
I will reach out in order to inform my curiosity.
Will you do that together with me? Talking with people who are not anxious
