The Election is Soon Over

The Election is soon over

I have learned a lot about the Electoral College, swing states, Popular vote and election fraud in the past few months. The possibility of an Electoral College tie would place the election in the hands of the House of Representatives. It happened in 1800, it could happen again.

My November, “Thirsty Thursday, and Theology” topic will be, “How does your faith effect your vote?” Thirsty Thursday for short, is a gathering of church members and community people at Brave Heart Pub, for a one hour discussion on a given topic. I hope you can join me on November 21 for a lively discussion.

I chose this topic because I can’t imagine making decisions without consenting the teachings of Jesus and Bible verses.

I’m reading a book, “Practicing the Way” with the subtitle, “Be with Jesus, Become like him, Do as he did”. Thank you to David and Monica Willard for purchasing this book and giving it to me to read. They understood that the essence of the book is what we are trying to do here at Christ Lutheran Church. Getting people to take their faith seriously and seek to love as Jesus loves.

Are Christians today being shaped by Jesus? Does Jesus run through your veins? From stopping on the road to help a motorist…or possibly driving by, does it come to mind, that I am to help my neighbor?

In this election, I hear a lot about foreigners. My mind goes to some specific verses that mention aliens, “foreigners” living among the Hebrews.

Deuteronomy 24:19 (NRSV) 19 When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be left for the alien, the orphan, and the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all your undertakings.

Deuteronomy 27:19 (NRSV) 19 “Cursed be anyone who deprives the alien, the orphan, and the widow of justice.” All the people shall say, “Amen!”

Jesus, as well as the Bible story, clearly maintains that God loves all that God created. That means every one. Does that blood pump through your veins?

If not, maybe, like the author suggests, you spend some time with Jesus.

Be with Jesus, Become like him, Do as he did. That is our calling.
